Gambling Advocacy Program (GAP)

Barrier Breakers is proud to introduce a new Gambling Advocacy Program (GAP) for the Latrobe Valley supported by Latrobe City Trust and Trinity Families. The program is for people and families who have been impacted by gambling issues.

Commencing in July, GAP will offer a series of group sessions that provide a forum for discussing issues around gambling, focusing on the overlap between mental health issues and gambling addiction. Our advocates will guide these sessions and allow participants to share their experiences so that areas of change and gaps in the support system can be identified. Barrier Breakers will be a non-judgemental soundboard for all those who attend and offer referral to gambling support organisations.

Discussion Group

Are you interested in making a positive difference to your own life, the life of someone close to you or to the wider community regarding gambling issues?

We want to hear your personal experiences so that we understand how to support people with gambling issues. The experience could be your own or of someone you know. Barrier Breakers can support or facilitate initiatives brought forward by community members in the group sessions by providing systemic and individual advocacy.

The discussion group meetings are being held between July and September 2017 in alternating afternoon and evening sessions.

A light lunch or supper will be provided. No identifying information will be taken from participants unless participants choose to provide it.┬áRegistration on Eventbrite is optional – you may attend on the day without registering for a ticket. You may choose to attend one or multiple sessions on the following dates to follow up on any ideas and actions identified in previous sessions.
